- Even after I completed the payment online for my booked hotels, why do hotels often request me to show my credit card when I check-in?
The hotel needs a credit card on file to charge against for any extras e.g. drinks consumed from the minibar etc. The amount of the temporary hold placed by the hotel on your credit card varies and is typically removed within 5-7 business days. This amount should appear as “pending” when listed among your card's transactions. It is important to note that guests who provide a debit card at check-in may find a temporary charge on their account rather than a hold but this should not cause any alarm as the hotel will normally refund this, usually within 5-7 business days, assuming there are no legitimate extra fees charged. Please please check with the hotel to confirm specifics. Also, note that some hotels do not accept debit cards.
